Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing ultrafine carbon fiber in which the carbon fiber can stably be produced for a long period without causing the fouling of a nozzle.
CONSTITUTION: The characteristic of this method for producing pitch-based ultrafine carbon fiber comprises installing a guide plate 2 having an opening 6 capable of passing pitch fiber and a discharge gas therethrough at a prescribed interval from a discharge part of a nozzle 1 just thereunder, sucking the surrounding gas from a gap between the discharge surface of the nozzle 1 and the guide plate 2 and carrying out the spinning while keeping the sucked gas in a state thereof sucked from the outer peripheral side of the guide plate 2 and discharged in the discharge direction of the pitch fiber in a method for melting pitches, discharging the high-speed gas stream from the periphery of the nozzle while discharging the molten pitches from the nozzle 1, thereby attenuating the molten pitches into a fibrous form, infusibilizing the resultant pitch fiber and, as necessary, carbonizing the infusibilized pitch fiber.
