Abstract:
PURPOSE:To secure idling stability in a range where ignition does not turn to a state of timing advance at a time when engine load grows larger in time of idle running, and to prevent any knocking from occurring as well as to enable these operations to cope with any change in types of used fuel. CONSTITUTION:An electronic control unit 51 controls an igniter 21 on the basis of target ignition timing, thereby operating a spark plug 8. Further this electronic control unit 51 judges fuel octane value on the basis of the detected result of a knock sensor 38. Likewise, this ECU 51 calculates a first basic ignition timing for usual driving on the basis of engine speed and load from the detected results of both sensors 32 and 36 in time of idle running, thereby calculating a second basic ignition timing for idle running on the basis of the engine sped. In addition, this ECU 51 sets the first basic ignition timing as an upper limit timing at timing advance side in time of idle running, setting the target ignition timing on the basis of both first and second basic ignition timings. At this time, the ECU 51 favorably changes the first basic ignition timing on the basis of the judged result of the octane value.
