Title:
TITANIUM DIOXIDE PIGMENT AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0649387
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a titanium dioxide pigment surface-coated with a lanthanum oxide film and being excellent in weathering resistance and dispersibility by neutralizing a lanthanum compound in a dispersion of titanium dioxide and drying the product.

CONSTITUTION: The pigment is obtained by neutralizing a lanthanum compound in a dispersion of titanium dioxide, separating the obtained product, and drying it to surface-coat the titanium dioxide particles with an oxide of lanthanum. By surface-coating their weathering resistance can be markedly improved and the lanthanum oxide can coat densely and seal the particles. When the densely coated titanium dioxide pigment is added to a resin medium and the obtained mixture is formed into a film, the resin has little tendency toward decomposition due to the holes generated in the particles by ultraviolet irradiation, for the holes can be shielded by the dense coating film or for a like reason, which results in, for example, the marked improvement of the weathering resistance of the pigment.
