PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound with an antibacterial activity, which is useful as a remedy for infectious disease.
CONSTITUTION: This novel compound is expressed by formula I (wherein R1 is H, Na, K, Ca, 1-6C alkyl ammonium or the like; R2 is H or alkoxycarbonyl; R3 is H, 1-6C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy, halogen or the like; R4 is H, 1-4C alkyl or the like; R5 is H, alkyl, methoxy or the like; R6 is H, 1-4C alkyl, acetyl or the like; R3 and R4 binds together to form a condensed ring), e.g. 6-[D-(-)-α-([4'- ethoxycarbonyloxy-6'-ethyl-7'-(4"-chloro)-phenoxymethylene-quinolinoyl-3']- carboxamide)-α-phenylacetoamide]-penicillinic acid-sodium salt. The compound of formula I is obtained by converting a substituted quinoline-3-carboxylic acid of formula II, in a form of a mixed anhydride or an active ester, with an α- aminobenzylpenicillin base structure of formula III.
