Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition having excellent durability and generating little environmental pollution and danger of safety and hygienicity because of the absence of heavy metal crosslinking agent by dispersing a specific metal compound in a specific copolymer latex.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition is produced by dispersing (A) 0.5-50 pts.wt. of a metal compound having an isoelectric point of pH 4 or above and holding positive surface charge at a pH below the isoelectric point (preferably group IIIa metal oxide, etc., such as Al2O3) in (B) 100 pts.wt. (in terms of solid) of a copolymer latex produced by the emulsion polymerization of (i) 5-60wt.% of an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid [preferably (meth)acrylic acid], (ii) 30-90wt.% of an alkyl (meth)acrylate [preferably butyl (meth)acrylate, etc.] and (iii) 0-65wt.% of other monomer copolymerizable with the components (i) and (ii) (preferably aromatic vinyl monomer such as styrene). The composition is preferably further compounded with a wax emulsion, an alkali-soluble resin, etc.
