Title:
OPTICAL ISOLATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3040857
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the isolator having a light insertion loss sufficiently small for practicable use by forming an antireflection film on a cleavage face without polishing the surface of a specific single crystal and forming a Faraday rotor in such a manner that a laser beam is made incident perpendicularly on the cleavage face, thereby constituting the isolator.
CONSTITUTION: This optical isolator is constituted by forming the antireflection film on the cleavage face formed by cleaving the cadmium(Cd) manganese(Mn) tellurium(Te) [Cd1-xMnxTe (0<X≤0.7)] single crystal which is used with a laser beam of 0.6 to 0.8μm band wavelength and is produced by a Bridgman method in parallel with the {110} face and making the incident light of the laser beam incident perpendicularly on the cleavage face. Namely, the incident face is directly formed by forming the antireflection film on the cleavage face of the single crystal without polishing the light incident face, unlike heretofore. The crystal structure changes and the growth of the single crystal by the Bridgman method is extremely difficult if the value of the X shown in the compsn. range of the single crystal is ≥0.7 and, therefore, the value of the X in the compsn. range of the cadmium manganese tellurium single crystal is specified to ≤0.7.
