PURPOSE: To freely control zoom speed from a shortest focal point to a longest focal point by operating an optical zoom and an electronic zoom while combining them, or operating them at the same time.
CONSTITUTION: An object image is formed on the surface of an imaging device 2 by an image pickup system 1, and an image signal is inputted to a signal processing circuit 3. The output of the processing circuit 3 is stored through an A/D conversion circuit 4 into a memory 5. A microcomputer 6 reads image signal information in an image pickup picture area stored in the memory 5, extracts the information of the image pickup signal area from the memory 5 based on the information of electronic zooms from an electronic zoom operation part 7 and an electronic zoom information memory 8 and outputs the information to a controller 9 for memory output address. The image signal read from the memory 5 by the controller 9 is vertically or horizontally enlarged/interpolated or reduced/interpolated through a vertical interpolation circuit 10 and a horizontal interpolation circuit 11, changed into the TV signal of a prescribed system and inputted to a VTR signal processing circuit 12.
