PURPOSE: To simplify the structure, to produce only small solid substances for transferring heat to a gas, and to effectively open a pressure vessel by the energy release, by constituting a heat generation pyrotechnic material for heating the gas to be inflated, with a sheeted pyrotechnic material.
CONSTITUTION: A vessel 11 contains a spirally wrapped charge of a sheeted pyrotechnic material 12, and an ignition charge 16 with a metallic case is sealed into the end 17 of the vessel 11. An end 20 has an opening 21 sealed with a stainless steel seating element 22, which has an aperture 23 sealed with a bursting disc 24 welded thereto. On collision, current is passed through conductor leads 18 to fire the ignition charge 16, which in turn ignites the pyrotechnic element 12. The heat heats the inert gas in the vessel 11, and the bursting disc 24 bursts to allow the gas to flow to a vessel exit 21 through the aperture 23.
