Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL ELEMENT AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0611726
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To diversify light scatterability and to lower a driving voltage as compared with an element consisting of an independent liquid crystal layer by sticking liquid crystal layers formed by respectively different processes for production on two sheets of substrates, thereby constituting the liquid crystal layer.

CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal layers 4, 5 are provided by the respectively different methods on the upper substrate 1 and lower substrate 2 with electrodes 3. Namely, a dispersion consisting of a polymer, liquid crystal and solvent is applied on the one substrate and is dried to remove the solvent, by which the substrate with the liquid crystal layer consisting of the polymer and the liquid crystal is formed. A dispersion consisting of a photosetting type resin and the liquid crystal is applied on another substrate and is cured by irradiation with light, by which the substrate with the liquid crystal layer consisting of the polymer and the liquid crystal is formed. The two substrates are stuck to each other to constitute the liquid crystal element. Namely, the light scatterable layers 4, 5 formed on a pair of the substrates 1, 2 are produced by the different processes for production and, therefore, the characteristics over the entire part of the liquid crystal element stuck with these substrates are more diversified than the characteristics of the liquid crystal element consisting of the independent light scatterable layer.
