PURPOSE: To measure the solubility of metal oxide electrochemically in fused chloride at high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A sensor for measuring the solubility of metal oxide in fused salt is constituted of a protecting tube 1, an Ag electrode 3 and a Pt electrode 14. The materials of the protecting tube 1 contain one or two of Y2O3 in mole % of over 7%-14% and ZrO2 of over 2%-7%. The remaining materials of the tube 1 comprise Al2O3 and SiO2. AgCl-NaCl powder 2 is filled in the protecting tube 1. The Ag electrode 3 is immersed into the AgCl-NaCl powder 2. The Pt electrode 14 is submerged into the fused salt at the outside of the protecting tube 1. Both electrodes 3 and 14 are electrically connected so as to measure the potential difference generated between both electrodes 3 and 14. The sensor, which electrochemically measures the dissolved amount of the metal oxide in the fused chloride environment, is provided. The potential corresponding to the dissolved amount of the metal oxide in the fused salt can be measured for a long period. Corrosion in the fused slat environment can be monitored. The degree of the deterioration of the material is detected.
