Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the influence of Marangoni convection 7 on the growth of crystal part 3 by inhibiting the approach of Marangoni convection 7 to a solid-liquid interface 4.

CONSTITUTION: A substance 1 is melted in a cell 5, the liquid face 6 of a liquid phase part 2 near the solid-liquid interface 4 between the substance 1 and the inner side of the side A of the cell 5 is covered with fine powder 8, the temperature of the substance 1 is controlled to develop a temperature gradient to lower the temperature of the side A of the cell 5 below the other side B and the substance temperature is slowly decreased from the side A of the cell 5 to solidify the liquid phase part 2 of the substance 1 from the side A of the cell 5 and slowly grow the crystal part 3 toward the other side B. Since the fine powder 8 is pressed against the solid-liquid interface 4 by Marangoni convection T caused by surface tension difference and moved toward the other side B of the cell 5 according to the growth of the crystal part 3, the approach of the Marangoni convection 7 to the solid-liquid interface 4 is prevented.
