Abstract:
PURPOSE: To secure safety in seat structures of automobiles capable of occupying a plurality of predetermined positions of adjustment.
CONSTITUTION: A seat structure has a latching device 60. The latching device 60 is partly carried by one of the brackets 12, 22 and partly by the other of these brackets 12, 22. When a backrest 20 occupies at least one of two particular positions, namely a 'normal' position and a 'relaxing' position, the backrest 20 is latched in two opposed directions to the seat 10 so as to absorb and/or transmit important forces to which the seat structure is subjected in the event of a shock having a large longitudinal component. The latching device 60 is brought into action by a hand control of a locking mechanism.
