Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an display with excellent gradation by applying the voltage weighted corresponding to the desired display data at the divided selection period.

CONSTITUTION: When 2n gradation is displayed, in general a selective period Δt is n-sected ((n) denotes gradation bit number) and the voltages weighted corresponding to the respective bits of the display data are applied at the respective divided periods Δt1. Scanning voltage waveform X1, X2 are applied on scanning electrodes X1, X2, a signal voltage waveform Y1 is applied on a signal electrode Y1 and voltage waveform X1-Y1 is applied on a pixel at the intersecting point of the scanning electrode X1 and the signal electrode Y1. In such a manner, a selective period Δt is divided into plural pieces of period and at the respective divided periods Δt1 the voltages weighted corresponding to the respective bits of the display data are applied. Further, the selective period Δt does not necessarily need to be divided into the strict equivalence and the division thereof may be suitably adjusted corresponding to, for example, the characteristics, etc., of the liquid crystal.
