Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the solidification of high-melting oily components on cooling a hot coal-improvement product by causing it to exchange heat indirectly with a coolant in a cooler.
CONSTITUTION: The solidification of high-melting oily components such as wax, tar, etc., separated from a coal-improvement product, which is produced by bringing coal into contact with high-temp. and high-pressure water or steam by the flowing method, is prevented by cooling the product at 120°C or higher by causing it to exchange heat indirectly with a coolant in a cooler. The product obtd. at the improvement step is cooled efficeintly and continuously by cooling it with the coolant while the product is flowing through tubes. When the product is a coal-water slurry, a coal fuel is obtd. which can easily be burned, contains only small amts. of sulfur, ash, etc., and is low in cost and excellent in stability during transport and storage.
