CONSTITUTION: A supporting frame 5 is movably mounted on a pair of rails extending in the longitudinal direction on the side of a work table. A carriage 3 includes a first support member 16 movable along a rail 12 provided on the supporting frame, a second support member 19 movable in a direction normal to the member 16, and a third support member 22 attached to the member 19 for supporting a bit device 21. The third support member 22 is installed through a cylinder 31 so as to be displaced with respect to the member 19 when a bit 25 contacts the batten material of a work and is subjected to its reaction force, while a sensor for detecting the displacement is provided.
