Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the environment recognizing device of a moving vehicle which can execute quickly recognition of an obstacle. CONSTITUTION:On a moving vehicle which is running on the running road surface 100, an image pickup means 10 is loaded. The image pickup means 10 picks up an image of a prescribed area 110 on the running road surface 100 through an optical system 20. Focusing of this image pickup system is executed so that all points in the prescribed area 110 are allowed to form an image clearly on the image pickup surface 11. Unless an obstacle exists in the prescribed area 110, a focused clear image is obtained on the image pickup surface 11. If an obstacle 200 exists, the focus comes not to be adjusted, therefore, an out-of-focus image is obtained on the image pickup surface 11. With regard to an image obtained on the image pickup surface 11, an edge is extracted, and by extracting the part in which the focus coincidence degree is low with regard to the extracted edge, the obstacle 200 can be recognized.
