PURPOSE: To provide high-quality reproduced images without increasing a page memory for storing image data by decreasing the particle feeling of a low density area most sensitive for human eyes.
CONSTITUTION: Based on the value of inputted multilevel image data, concerning the image of the small value, namely, at a high light part, a binary data monitor part 400 searches whether the picture element of a value '1' exists around the respective picture elements of image data binarized by a binarizing circuit 300 or not and detects the picture element to be an isolated point. Next, concerning the picture element to be the isolated point in the respective picture elements of the binarized image, a resolution conversion circuit 500 diffuses the value of the attention picture element near that picture element when the picture element of '1' exists comparatively adjacently, and diffuses the value of the attention picture element far away rather than that picture element when the picture element of '1' exists comparatively far away from that picture element.
