PURPOSE: To accurately machine an end face machining margin as a cutter can correctly follow fluctuation of width of a strip, camber of the strip and snaking of the strip in machining the end face of the strip.

CONSTITUTION: This is constituted of a cutter 9 to machine the end face of a strip 1, and end face copying roller 12 of the strip arranged close by the inlet side of the cutter 9, a copying roller position setting holding device to set a cutting amount which is relative position of the copying roller 12 and the cutter 9, a machining head 8 loaded with the cutter 9, the copying roller 12 and the position setting holding device and a copying cylinder 16 to move the machining head 8 in the strip cross direction and to press the copying roller 12 to the strip end face.
