Abstract:
PURPOSE: To control the image output of a video camera by converting an amplification output to a parameter and generating a difference from an optimum value and converting it to a corresponding extent of correction to the amplification gain. CONSTITUTION: The image of a texture under endoscope examination is formed by exposure light to the texture reflectively illuminated of a plane CCD sensor 14 to generate a spatially changing electric charge distribution, and each electric charge is transferred to a PISO on-chip transfer register 18. The intensity of a display image is automatically controlled by an interactive process, and the magnitude of electric charge generated from the sensor 14, and the gain of a video amplifier A24 are continuously adjusted in accordance with an algorithm which maximizes the availability of each process substituting for effective modulation of the amplification output. The difference between the detection value of a detector 38 and an optimum value is supplied to a comparator 42, and the corresponding extent of adjustment for the gain of the amplifier A24 is calculate to make the measured parameter match with the optimum value. Shuttering of the sensor 14 and adjustment of the gain of the amplifier A24 are combined to realize continuous automatic exposure adjustment.
