PURPOSE: To provide a cosmetic having skin-beautifying effect and low toxicity to human being and especially suitable as a skin cosmetic.
CONSTITUTION: This cosmetic is produced by compounding 0.001-20wt.% (preferably 0.01-5wt.%) (based on the total weight of the composition) of at least one kind of compound selected from 4-alkyl(or alkenyl)resorcinol of formula I (R1 is 1-9C alkyl or alkenyl), 5-alkyl(or alkenyl)resorcinol of formula II (R2 is 2-9C alkyl or alkenyl) and 5,5'-dialkyl(or dialkenyl)-1,1',3,3'- tetrahydroxydiphenylmethane of formula III (R3 and R4 are 1-9C alkyl or alkenyl). These compounds have respectively low toxicity and irritation to the skin and high stability to light and heat and each of them is usable in combination with various cosmetic bases, additives, etc.
