Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound useful as an antibacterial agent.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a compound of formula I {wherein Z is (CH2)nNR3R4 [wherein (n) is 0 or 1; R3 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; R4 is a (substituted) 1-pyrrolidinyl]; X is N; and R2 is cyclopropyl}, for example, 7-[3-(aminomethyl)-1-pyrrolidinyl]-1-cyclopropyl-1,4-dihydro-6-fluoro-4-oxo-1,8- naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid. The compound of formula I can be obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with an amidine of formula III.
