A

PURPOSE: To provide a new compound useful for agriculture, horticulture or the like, which is capable of efficiently controlling harmful organisms such as insects and arachnid. The warm-blooded animals, fishes and plants are sufficiently tolerative to the compound.

CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [X is O or -NR- (R is H or a 1-6C alkyl); Y is H, a 1-20C alkyl, 3-7C cycloalkyl, 3-20C alkenyl, 3-20C alkynyl, benzyl, or aryll, e.g. 2-(2-chloro-2-fluorocyclopropyl) acetic acid, is obtained by reacting 2-(2-chloro-2-fluorocyclopropyl) acetic acid halide of formula II (Hal is Cl or Br) with a compound of formula III in the presence of an acid- binding agent.
