PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of a sewing work by comparing the sewable range of a sewing machine side with the sewing range of a data side, and allowing data to execute automatically an arrangement direction change processing, in the case the sewing range of the sewing machine side jumps out of the sewable range.

CONSTITUTION: Working cloth is supported by an embroidery frame on a bed part and set, and the embroidery frame is subjected to moving control in the X axis and the Y axis directions by a horizontal moving mechanism containing each of feed motors 16, 14 of the X axis and the Y axis. In such an embroidery sewing machine, in a controller 17 for controlling each of feed motors 16, 14 together with a needle bar selection motor 8 and a sewing machine motor 9, a sewable range sewn by a sewing needle, and a sewing range of data for sewing are stored in a first area and a second area of a RAM20, respectively. In such a state, whether the sewing range of the data side exists within the sewable range or not is decided by a CPU18, and when it is decided to be NO, the data is converted in an appropriate arrangement direction by a parallel movement, a rotational movement, etc.
