PURPOSE: To enhance the efficiency of excavation by supporting the reactive force to a shield excavating machine during segment assembly by a back reactive force supporting drum coupled with the rear of propelling machine, and propelling the excavating machine simultaneously by a back propelling mechanism mounted on the drum.
CONSTITUTION: The reactive force is received to an existing segment 4 by an excavating jack 11 to perform normal excavating forward. Then the reactive force is transferred to a back reactive force supporting drum 2 coupled with a shield machine 1 through a center shaft 10, and the jack 11 is pulled off fully, and a segment 4' is assembled as indicated by the dotted line. Meantime part of the excavation amount is excavated forward by a back reactive force jack 7 and the center shaft 10, wherein the excavating reactive force is supported through the drum 2. After the assembly of the front segment 4' is finished, propelling is conducted while the reactive force is again received to the new segment by the jack 11. Meantime the drum 2 is advanced as preparation for the next run of excavating. Thereby excavating forward can be conducted in parallel with segment assembly, and also the speed of executing the works can greatly be increased.
