PURPOSE: To provide a novel urein derivative retaining the chiral purity of the starting material extremely well which can be obtained by reacting a compound containing a free amino group with a diamino acid derivative containing an Nω-aryloxycarbonyl group in a basic medium.
CONSTITUTION: In preparing a urein derived from an a, ω-diamino acid, a compound having a free amino group such as ammonia, a primary amine, a secondary amine and an amino acid (e.g. tryptophan or the like) and a diamino acid derivative having an Nω-aryloxycarbonyl group [e.g. N-(phenyloxycarbonyl) lysine or the like] are reacted in the presence of LiOH.H2O in an aqueous medium at a temperature of 75°C for 45 minutes and then, the reaction solution is quenched to room temperature, treated with hydrochloric acid and left to stand overnight in a refrigerator and subsequently by filtering the formed precipitates is obtained a desired urein of N-(Nα-tryptophanocabonyl)lysine or the like.
