Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a spatial optical modulation element which does not deteriorate liquid crystals and features high responsiveness and high resolution.

CONSTITUTION: Transparent electrodes Et1 consisting of a photoconductive layer member PCLms are formed only in the parts corresponding to the regions where the matrix patterns by microdiodes constituted in the parts corresponding to the effective image regions at the end face on the side opposite to these transparent electrodes ET1 so as to avert impression of electric fields on a liquid crystal layer LC existing in the regions from the position of the inner wall of a sealing part SA to the position on the outer side of the regions where the matrix patterns by the microdiodes exist, by which the generation of the deterioration in the liquid crystals in these parts is prevented.
