PURPOSE: To provide an electrophotographic recorder excellent in economicity and having a high safety factor while keeping image quality by stably electrostatically charging a photosensitive body.

CONSTITUTION: An electrostatic charging device 2 is constituted by providing an electrostatic charging roller 21 arranged in contact with the photosensitive drum 1, and a DC constant-current high voltage power source 22 capable of respectively generating 1st electrostatic charging voltage and 2nd electrostatic charging voltage having specified polarity and controlled in terms of a constant current to the respective different specified 1st and 2nd current values and alternatively impressing the 1st electrostatic charging voltage and the 2nd electrostatic charging voltage on the roller 21. Furthermore, a master control part 8 controls the power source 22 so that the 2nd electrostatic charging voltage is supplied to the roller 21 only in a period when an area passing a transfer position while recording paper P is not inserted to a position to be transferred by a transfer device 5 out of the surface of the drum 1 at the time of electrostatically charging the drum 1 passes the contact position of the roller 21, and the 1st electrostatic charging voltage is supplied to the roller 21 in other period.
