Title:
FORMATION OF WATER-REPELLENT COATING FILM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0641728
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily and efficiently form a coating film excellent in water repellency and durability to desired thickness on the surface of a member comprising resin, ceramics, or metal.

CONSTITUTION: In a vacuum chamber 1 a metallic body as an anode 2 and a vaporizable metal as a cathode 3 are placed, DC voltage is applied between the anode 2 and cathode 3 to effect arc discharge while oxygen is introduced into the vacuum chamber 1 to form a coating film consisting of a metal oxide produced by the reaction of vaporized metal and oxygen on the surface of a base material 4. The metal oxide coating film formed by vacuum arc vapor deposition is dense and uniform and has high hardness and excellent durability and significantly good water-repellent function compared with a conventional silicone resin coating film or polytetrafluoroethylene resin coating film. Moreover, by vacuum arc vapor deposition, the water-repellent coating film can be formed into desired film thickness.
