PURPOSE: To prevent the entrapment of scum over the whole time of casting and to reduce the remained steel quantity at the stopping time of casting, in a tundish for vacuum induction furnace used to the vacuum melting.

CONSTITUTION: One pair of weir plates 13, 14 are arranged in the tundish body 11 by spacing the interval in the flowing direction of the molten steel 20. The weir plate 13 at the inlet side is apart from the bottom surface of the tundish body 11. The weir plate 14 at the outlet side is made to be a little higher than the gap 15 formed below the weir plate 13. Ceramic foams 13b, 14b are arranged on the surface layers of at least the inlet sides of the weir plates 13, 14.
