PURPOSE: To secure a proper reception correcting state due to an automatic equalizer even when any unexpected line abnormality such as impulse or the like occurs by preserving the correction coefficient of the automatic equalizer constituting the receiver in a RAM and recovering the coefficient preserved in the RAM when a correction coefficient is destroyed.
CONSTITUTION: A correction coefficient K1' of an automatic equalizer 1 is normally decided based on a training check signal TFC to be received before facsimile image information Pi 1 and by using this coefficient, the reception of the image information Pi 1 in the first page is corrected. At the same time, a coefficient K2 for correcting the reception of image information Pi 2 in the next page is decided based on the receiving state of the image information Pi 1. At such a time, the first decided coefficient K1 is preserved in a RAM 5. In this case, proper coefficients K1-KX are successively set for each page when there is no unexpected line abnormality such as the mixture of impulse noise or the like. When the coefficient K2, for example, is destroyed by line abnormality during the operation, however, the normal coefficient K1 is immediately recovered.
