PURPOSE: To give variation to the operating force of an operation lever by providing a means for energizing the operation lever so as to be held in the neutral position, a means for energizing the operation lever from the reverse shift row side to the up/down shift row side, and a detent mechanism having a reaction means and a holding means.

CONSTITUTION: This transmission for vehicle is provided with a neutral position holding means 30 energizing an operation lever 20 so as to be held on the neural position, at tilting the operation lever 20 in the up/down shift direction and the reverse shift direction, and a select position holding means energizing the operation lever 20 from the reverse shift row side to the up/down shift row side, at tilting the operation lever 20 in the select direction. Further it is provided with a detent mechanism 50 having a reaction means 52 functioning from the way of the stroke of the select position holding means and a holding means 53 holding the operation lever 20 on the reverse shift position. The detent mechanism 50 is constituted of a position plate 51 provided with an inclined face 52 and a recessed part 53, and a ball 54.
