Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an amorphous Mg alloy free from embrittlement even after heating at high temp. and having high strength and heat resistance by specifying a composition consisting of Mg, M(La, Ce, Mm, Y), Al, X(Ni, Cu), and Z(Mn, Zn, Zr, Ti).

CONSTITUTION: This alloy is an amorphous Mg alloy having a composition represented by MgaMbAlcXdZe (where a=70 to 90% by atom, b=2 to 15%, c=1 to 9%, d=2 to 15%, e=0.1 to 8%, and a+b+c+d+e=100%), and further, this alloy has high strength and heat resistance and has practical utility. This amorphous Mg alloy can be obtained, e.g., by spraying a molten Mg alloy with prescribed composition through a small hole, bringing it into contact with the surface of a rapidly rotating roll made of copper, and forming it into an alloy foil by means of rapid solidification.
