PURPOSE: To produce a self-emulsifiable compd. without losing the functional property of epoxide groups by reacting a monoalkyl ether of a polyoxyalkylene diol with a bifunctional isocyanate in a specified manner.
CONSTITUTION: In a 1st stage, a monoalkyl ether of a polyoxyalkylene diol is reacted with a bifunctional isocyanate in a molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:6. In a 2nd stage, the resultant isocyanate group-contg. monourethane is reacted with a di- and/or a polyglycidyl ether based on bisphenol or novolak in a molar ratio of 1:1 to a:1 (a is 2 to 10) to obtain the objective compd. represented by formula I, wherein each of R and R1 is a group of formula II or III; R3 is a 1-3C alkyl; R4 is a 1-4C alkylene; R5 is a group of formula IV; (b) is 0-4; (c) is 1-10; R2 is H or a group of formula V; R6 is a 1-5C alkyl; R7 is H or CH3-; (d) 1-100; (e) is 0 or 1; (f) is 0 or 1; and R8 is an aliphatic, cyclic, cycloaliphatic, arom. or araliphatic hydrocarbon.
