PURPOSE: To improve the operability and to allow a sender to quickly recognize it when a document is not normally delivered.
CONSTITUTION: A reception section 31 of a translation device 3 receives a document picture signal sent from a sender facsimile equipment 1 via a communication line 2. An error detection section 32 discriminates whether or not the document is normally received based on the received picture signal. When the document is normally received, a character recognition section 33 recognizes a character from the picture signal and converts the signal into a character code. The character code string is translated by the translation section 34 and then converted into a picture signal at a picture synthesis section 35. A transmission section 36 sends the converted picture signal to a destination and sends error information to the sender when the error detection section 32 discriminates the received document to be in error.
