Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain an organic thin film in which the spacing between monomolecular films comprising a functional coloring matter can be controlled to or below 20Angstrom , by intermediately providing a Langmuir-Blodgett thin film comprising a high mol.wt. compound as a spacer between Langmuir-Blodgett monomolecular films comprising molecules of a coloring matter. CONSTITUTION:A Langmuir-Blodgett thin film comprising a high mol.wt. compound is intermediately provided as a spacer between Langmuir-Blodgett monomolecular films comprising molecules of a coloring matter. A thin film of a high mol.wt. compound in an organic thin film is required to be extremely thin and be uniform, not only for accurate control of the spacing between the molecules of the coloring matter but for stacking a plurality of layers of such a structure and converting a film with a large are into a minute element. For fulfilling the requirements, Langmuir-Blodgett thin films of a high mol.wt. compound formed by the Langmuir-Blodgett method are most suitable. With this organic thin film, the spacing between the monomolecular films comprising the molecules of a functional coloring matter can be controlled by the thickness (about a few to 20Angstrom ) of the monomolecular film of the high mol.wt. compound, so that control of function can be performed extremely easily.
