PURPOSE: To provide the automatic stopping system for sewing machine preventing the continuous driving of the motor on the sewing machine, excess power consumption, and a dangerous state where a pointer moves up and down continuously.

CONSTITUTION: When a S/S switch 25 commanding the driving and stop of the motor of the sewing machine is depressed, a CPU 31 drives a motor 3 and resets a timer 33 measuring the continuous driving time for the motor to measure the continuous driving time of the motor 3. When the measuring time of the timer 33 reaches the limit time allowing the continuous driving of the motor 3 stored in a ROM in advance, the CPU 31 stops the motor 3 of the sewing machine by sending a stop signal to a driving circuit 41.
