To obtain a new naphthalene compound useful as an inhibitor against postmenoausal syndrome including and osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, restenosis, and hyperlipidemia, prostatic cancer, acne, virilism, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, menstrual pain, atrophic vaginitis, etc.
This naphthalene compound is a compound of the formula {R1 is H, OH, O-(1-4C alkyl), etc.; R2 is H, Cl, F, a 1-4C alkyl, O-CO-Ar ]Ar is a (substituted) phenyl], etc.; R3 and R4 are each same as the R2 with the proviso that both R3 and R4 are not H; R5 is 1-piperidyl, 1-pyrrolidyl, etc.; (n) is 2 or 3}, e.g. [2-(3-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyoxynaphthalen-1-yl] [4-[2-(1- piperidyl)ethoxy]phenyl]methane hydrochloric acid salt. The compound of the formula is obtained by treating [2-(3-methoxyphenyl)-6-methoxynaphthalen-1- yl][4-[2-(1-piperidyl)ethoxy]phenly methanol methanesulfunate with LiN(SiMe3)3., etc.
