Abstract:
PURPOSE: To inhibit the corrosion by naphthenic acid in the distillation plant of an oil refinery by use of a polysulfide corrosion inhibitor.
CONSTITUTION: A method of inhibiting the corrosion by the naphthenic acid in crude oil in a crude oil distillation plant to be operated at a temperature of higher than 204.4°C (400°F) comprises introducing into crude oil an effective amount of an organic polysulfide of the formula: R-(S)x-R' (wherein R and R' are each a 6-30C alkyl group, a 6-30C cycloalkyl group or an aromatic group and they may be the same or different; and x is 2-6) to inhibit the naphthenic acid corrosion.
