An open ceiling 1 extending from the under floor through a garret to a roof is formed longitudinally in the substantially central part of the building. A ventilating opening communicating with the habitable room in the building is formed in a side wall of the open ceiling 1, and a foundation ventilating opening 3a communicating with the under floor in the building is formed on a continuous footing in the lower side wall of the open ceiling 1. The roof of the building is provided with an opening part 4 connected with the open ceiling 1, and an air quality improving device 20 is replaceably disposed in the foundation ventilating opening 3a communicating with the under floor.
