Abstract:
PURPOSE: The title liquid crystal composition usable for electric field display, particularly. TN display, having positive dielectric anisotropy, comprising p-cyclohexylnitrobenzene or p-cyclohexylaminobenzene.
CONSTITUTION: A nematic liquid crystal substance, e.g. p-cyanophenyl-p'-n-butylbenzoate or p-cyanophenyl-p'-n-hexylbenzoate, is dissolved in 2W20wt% of p- cyclohexylnitrobenzene (N) or p-cyclohexylaminobenzene (A) at 80W85°C for about 4hr with stirring to give the desired composition. The presence of N or A changes the interaction between liquid crystal molecules to change the elastic properties of the liquid crystal layer. The lighting starting voltage is thus reduced.
