PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a neprilysin inhibitor.SOLUTION: In one aspect, the invention relates to compounds having the formula (I), where R, R, R, a, R, Rand Rare as defined in the application or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. These compounds have a neprilysin inhibition activity. In other aspect, the invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing the compounds, a method using the compounds and a process and an intermediate for manufacturing the compounds. In other aspect of the invention, especially it relates to compounds of the formula I or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof for manufacturing pharmaceuticals useful for treatment of hypertension, heart failure or renal diseases.SELECTED DRAWING: None
