Engagement pressure PC1 of a first clutch C1 is feedback-controlled to let a speed ratio e of a torque converter 14 agrees with a target speed ratio etarget, but the target speed ratio etarget is increased as inferred clutch temperature c1tmp rises. For this reason, the engagement pressure PC1 is reduced so that actual speed ratio e is increased in accordance with the target speed ratio etarget to approach a complete neutral condition, heat generation due to friction of the first clutch C1 is suppressed, durability of the first clutch C1 is ensured, and neutral control is continuously performed to improve fuel economy.
