PURPOSE: To obtain new 3-aryluracil derivatives which are excellent active ingredients of pre- and post-emergence herbicides.
CONSTITUTION: The derivatives are compounds represented by formula I (wherein: W is a group represented by formula II (R1 is H, an alkyl or alkenyl group, or the like) or formula III (R13 is an alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group); R2 is a halogen or CN; R3 is H or a halogen; R4 is H, a halogen or an alkyl group and R5 is an alkyl or a haloalkyl group, or optionally, R4 and R5 are joined together to form (CH2)n ((n) is 3 or 4); and Q is a group represented by formula IV, V or VI (R6 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkyl-alkyl group; R7 is an alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl or benzyl group, or the like; and each of R8 and R9 is H, an alkyl, phenyl or benzyl group, or the like)) and their salts, such as 2-chloro-5-(3,6-dihydro-2,6-dioxo-3-methyl-4-trifluoromethyl-1(2H)- pyrimidinyl)-benzaldehyde. Such a compound represented by formula I is prepared by allowing a compound represented by formula VII to react with an organometallic compound represented by the formula R6'-M2 or the formula R6'-M3-G.
