Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new amine capable of being used as a surfactant and further as a softener for clothes, hair, etc., and excellent in flexibility and in biodegradability.
CONSTITUTION: The amine of formula I [R1 is 7-35C alkyl or alkenyl; X is-CR< (R is H, 1-4C alkyl); k is 1-3; p is 0-9; m, n are 0-4, but m, n are simultaneously not 0], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by cyanoethylating an aminoalcohol of formula III with acrylonitrile, hydrogenating the reaction product in the presence of a catalyst to produce an aminoalcohol of formula IV, and, if necessary, repeating the cyanoethylation using the acrylonitrile and then hydrogenation reaction to produce an aminoalcohol of formula V (q is 2, 3), and finally acylating the aminoalcohol of formula IV or V with a fatty acid of formula VI or its ester.
