Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new antibiotic useful as an antifungal agent and an antitumor agent, excellent in antifungal and antitumor activities, by culturing a bacterium belonging to the genus Saccharothrix, capable of producing formamycin.
SOLUTION: This new antibiotic formamycin is shown by the formula, shows excellent antifungal and antitumor activities and is useful as an active ingredient for an antifungal agent and an antitumor agent. This new antibiotic is obtained by culturing a bacterium [e.g. Saccharothrix MK27-91F 2 strain (FERM P-16,053), etc.] belonging to the genus Saccharothrix, capable of producing the antibiotic formamycin of the formula and collecting a culture product by subjecting the culture product to extraction with a solvent, a means taking advantage of difference in adsorption affinity for various adsorbents, gel filtration, chromatography utilizing countercurrent distribution, etc., alone or their combination.
