Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a new arom. polycarbonate which has specified mol. structure and wt. average mol.wt. and hence has an excellent heat resistance and a high glass transition point. CONSTITUTION:The objective polycarbonate has a mol. structure of formula I [wherein Ar<1> is a divalent arom. group of formula II (wherein R3, R4, and R5 are each 1-10C alkyl, aryl, or halogen; R1 and R2 are each H, R3, or 5-6C cycloalkyl; R6, R7, and R8 are each H or R3; and (m) and (n) are each 0-8 provided that (m+n) is 8 or lower); Ar<2> is a divalent arom. group; Ar<3> is Ar<1> or Ar<2>; X is hydroxy or an aryl carbonate group of formula III (wherein Ar<4> is a monovalent arom. group); and i/(i+j) is 0.05-1], and a wt.-average mol.wt. of 2,000-200,000.
