Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an oral hygiene composition containing a source of hydrogen citrate ions, an oxalate salt and an orally acceptable excipient, and having a caries-preventing action. CONSTITUTION: This oral hygiene composition contains 0.023-10wt.% of a source of hydrogen citrate ions (e.g. a hydrogen citrate salt), 0.0025-7wt.% of an oxalate salt and a conventional excipitent (additionally a surfactant, a gelling agent, a humectant, a flavor, a sweetener, a coloring agent). The composition preferably further contains an ionic fluorine-containing compound (e.g. sodium fluoride) in a fluoride ion/citric acid hydrogen ion weight ratio of 1:10 to 1:500, and is preferably controlled to a pH of 4-7. The composition may be prepared in the form of dentifrice or a mouthwash by conventional methods, and the components may be added to compositions for chewing gums, tablets, troches, etc.
