NEW MATERIAL: Compd. of formula I {wherein R1 is H, an alkyl or a (substd.) aryl; R2 is H or acyl; R3 is a 3-6C alkyl; R4 is H, an alkyl, -CH2-R10 [wherein R10 is (substd.) phenyl, etc.]; R5 is H, an alkyl or formula II (wherein R13 is H or an alkyl; R14 is OH, an alkoxy, etc.)}, or their salts, solvates and hydrates.
EXAMPLE: 3-mercapto-N-[2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-S-(methylamino-carbonyl) ethyl]-2-(2-methylpropyl)-5-oxo-hexaneamide.
USE: Medicines. Collagenase inhibitor for curing arthritis and other diseases. To be used for curing collagen (colloid dissolving) symtoms of mammals.
PROCESS: E.g. a compd. of fomrula III [wherein X is (protected) carbonyl; a dotted line is a double bond at either α or β position to a variable group R3] is reacted with a compd. of formula L-SH (wherein L is an ordinary S-protective group) to obtain the compd. of formula I.
