There is disclosed a 4,4'-dithiodiarylsulfone compound represented by formula (1) (in the formula, R1 to R4 and R1' to R4' may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a 1-4C alkyl group, or a halogen atom; and R5 represents a 1-4C alkyl group), a method for producing the 4,4'-dithiodiarylsulfone compound represented by formula (1) comprising causing a 4,4'-dihaloarylsulfone compound to react with a thiolate compound, and a method for producing 4,4'-dimercaptoaryl sulfide compound from the diarylsulfone compound represented by formula (1) as a raw material.
