PURPOSE: To obtain a new fluorinated abscisic acid derivative useful as an active ingredient for plant growth regulators such as germination inhibitor, growth regulator, lodging inhibitor, etc., and a synthetic intermediate for the active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (X is O(CH2)2O or O; R is hydroxymethyl, aldehydo, a 1-2 alkoxycarbonyl or carboxyl) such as 5-(2',6' -dimethyl-6'-trifluoromethyl -4',4'-ethylenedioxy-1', hydroxy-2' -cyclohexen-1'-yl) -3-methyl-2,4-pentadiene 1-ol. The compound of formula I is obtained by treating a compound of formula II with cis-3 -methyl-2-pentene -4-yn-1-ol in the presence of BuLi to give a compound of formula III and treating the compound with sodium bis(2-methoxyethoxy)aluminum hydride.
